DETACHED

I took this picture atop the 7th Floor balcony at San Francisco MoMA. I remember having to walk through bustling streets and crowds just to get to this particular viewpoint. The moment I set foot on this balcony, the first thing I noticed was the sound of nothing. In contrast to the noisy ground below, the rooftops offered a much more serene experience.

The ground level is the only space we can occupy with pure certainty; I sketched this piece wondering what it would be like if we could detach ourselves from that certainty.
